Meditation for Healing Childhood Abuse and Overcoming TraumaOvercoming childhood abuse and healing trauma is one of the simpler things to do. If you disagree, return to this page when you can wear an open mind. For those of you who are wondering how I can state something that sounds so obtuse and simplistic, you will see that when something complex and multi faceted is distilled down to its essence, it can easily be toppled and digested.I have a friend I know intimately. Growing up, he never remembers getting a single hug, or a single "I love you," from anyone including his parents. In addition to the deprivation, what he did get from one parent and one grand parent was physical beating to the point of suffocation, having urine and scalding water thrown at him, repeated sexual abuse, verbal spiritual brainwashing in the form of "You will never amount to anything, You are so worthless that you should just dig your own grave now, everyone hates you" In these extreme circumstances, one of two outcomes is common. The child either completely identifies with these stimuli or rebels against them. In most cases, the child swings wildly between these two conditions in a bipolar fashion with one pole being the dominant response. My friend learned to speak seven languages with varying degrees of fluency. He amassed a staggering volume of knowledge from countless university books as a teenager. During this process his IQ was tested three times. Twice he tested above 160 (high genius) and once he tested 80 (mentally retarded). He earned the 80 score when his mother was sitting outside the psychologist's office. The fulcrum of his entire life was balanced precariously on the point of his pain. No matter how great or how tragic his actions and accomplishments, at the root, was his pain. All the decisions he made were based on his abuse and not on healthy self-love. There is an old spiritual saying that if you plant an olive seed, you will get an olive tree. In his case, pain was planted. No matter how healthy and beautiful the resulting fruit looked from the outside, the resulting olive was always bitter to him. None of his accomplishments were fulfilling. In fact, he became bitter, self destructive, and even resentful over the energy he put into "meaningless" actions just to prove his mother wrong. Not surprisingly, there was even a period of time he found all women distasteful and unattractive. He overcame his pattern of overachievment and resentment the same way many overcome their pattern of self-destruction. His process had a duration of a couple of year because he gradually learned the following meditation piecemeal. Others who learn this meditation instantly change. This is called quantum leap growth. The meditation if explained directly creates many questions in the western mind. In the east, a monk can simply prescribe this meditation and you would simply perform it without asking any questions. But for the more top heavy analytical western mind two very popular events in Bible Folklore (we use the Bible because it is the only book for which all religions have some amount of respect.) illustrates this meditation. Water flows along the path of least resistance. The longer the water flows along this path, the deeper the ravines become, making it even easier for the water to continue flowing down the same path. When Cyrus the Great of Persia toppled the mighty Babylonian Empire, The Babylonians were heavily resting on the security of their water wall. They were eating and drinking using the utensils from the holy Mosaic Tabernacle. Their river water flow afforded them their habit of security. For the Babylonians, the way the water ran was agreeable to them. Not for the Persians. Cyrus the great had a world to conquor. The only thing standing in the way was the flow of the Mightly River Euphrates. So to become the dominant world power, all he had to do is capture the Babylonian headquarters and it's mighty warriors by diverting the Euphrates. He did just that. He went up-river. He found the most narrow slow flowing portion of the river. The spot where the river had least carved itself into the earth. Then, his soldiers and engineers simply carved a slightly deeper channel toward a lower elevation. Within hours the famous water wall of Babylon was shallow enough to walk across. The warriors were drunk. The main gates were arrogantly left unlocked. Cyrus became Cyrus the Great of Persia. Have you ever played a word association game? Go ahead, fill in the blank, "My mother is _______," "Work is ______," "Men are _________,""Women are _________," What ever your answers are, they simply arise into your conscious mind due to the chemicals between your synapses and dendrites flowing down the path of least resistance. Low self esteem (boastfulness - the overcompensation of low self esteem), insecurity (arrogance - the overcompensation), self destructive behavior (self pampering behavior - overcompensation again) and the resultant actions are all once again, perpetuated by the hormones and chemicals flowing between the nerves in your nervous system down the path of least resistance. So now, do you see how the following meditation works? The meditation below simply burns new healthy channels of thought and feelings into your psyche so that the current emotional associations wither away. It is encouraging to know that habits and feelings-action patterns that have been deeply chisled into your neuro-synaptic pathways over years can be instantly rerouted. The Euphrates River took millions of years to etch into the earth but only one night to divert into a new channel. Ancient Taoist Meditation for Overcoming Childhood Trauma and Abuse Instantly Sit in a meditation position. Or just meditate in the standing position but beware that you don't collapse as you will need to be in theta sleep while standing. Put yourself back in the first moment or the most emotional moment of abuse or trauma. Fall asleep as you replay this scene without loosing consciousness (this part may take some practice - sleeping while you are awake). Now, to divert the Mighty Euphrates, do not pay attention to all the loud painful emotions you feel rushing in on you. Instead, go to it's source. Find the silence beneath the noise. Ask to see the emptiness before the creation of these painful shards. While you are in this place that feels like you are under the surface of the water, where everything looses its sharpness and everything sounds softly muted, find the LOVE you have and had for your abuser / source of trauma. If this is challenging to do, put yourself out of the scene for the moment. Imagine the source of trauma acting out the same act without anyone there - just in thin air. Now, do you feel pity? Follow the trickling stream of pity to find your well of love. Now, put yourself back in that same situation. Inhale deeply courage. Make that well of love flow through all of your veins, arteries, synapses, muscles, organs, and soul. Divert all the powerful chi away from all the thoughts and feelings you used to fuel into this single condition of love for the source of your abuse / trauma. Make tight circles with your middle fingers and thumbs, tongue with the roof of your mouth, and anal sphincter. This closes off all the escaping chi channels in your body. Then create the highest pressure you can inside your body, as if you were using the bathroom. Your eyes should feel like they will pop out. and your stomach should look like it is pregnant. You are now baking, scinging, chissling this new healthy pathway into your entire physiology. Move around if you wish to create more pressure in your kidneys, intestines, etc. This is called Chi Kung. But when applied to meditation, Chi Kung rapidly drives extreme amounts of oxygen to your nervous system and brain. This deeply hypnotic / transcendental meditation technique rapidly creates a stronger trauma in your neurology. But this trauma is a healthy one. Every time you think of or are reminded of this trauma / abuse, you will call up the unlimited power of healthy centered love. It's hard to do something you'll regret if you are motivated by love.
